The Cloudlab project (“Cloud Based Virtual Computer Lab for Digital Education Across Disciplines”) aims at establishing the operation of a university-wide “virtual computer lab” based on the open standards and the open source software stack provided by the Project Jupyter community.
The Kiel University Computing Centre is looking for a group of engaged students to be part of the Cloudlab team, which supports teachers in adopting and using the Cloudlab system for educational purposes at Kiel University! The student positions offered here are targeted at assisting the core project team in various tasks around operating and supporting users on the Cloudlab platform. The default working hours are 40 hours per month, individual agreements and flexible working times are possible. Remote work is welcome and the only option during the pandemic.
“Studentische Hilfskraft”
Among your tasks are,
- supporting CAU teaching staff in creating computational teaching material
- specifying the required software environments in a way that is compatible to Cloudlab
- preparing, conducting and analysing Cloudlab service evaluation surveys
Requirements,
- valid student status
- good German and/or English language skills
- affinity for topics around computational teaching material
- curiosity and willingness to learn new things!
Beneficial experience, i.e. you have already used,
- Jupyter notebooks in an educational or any other context
- typical scientific software package managers (e.g. pip, Conda, …)
You will gain practical insight into asynchronous team work, Git-based workflows, programming languages, software environment management, service-oriented platform development, …
“Wissenschaftliche Hilfskraft”
Among your tasks are,
- analysing Cloudlab platform usage and Cloudlab service evaluation survey data
- maintaining Cloudlab platform documentation, e.g. Jupyter notebooks, software containers, …
- supporting CAU teaching staff in creating computational teaching material and specifying the required software environments in a way that is compatible to Cloudlab
- assisting the core project team during workshops for CAU teaching and IT staff
Requirements,
- valid student status
- good German and/or English language skills
- Bachelor degree in a natural or computational science field
- affinity for topics around computational science, software environments, container technology, …
- curiosity and willingness to learn new things!
Beneficial experience, i.e. you have already used,
- JupyterHub-compatible applications such as JupyterLab, R Studio, …
- typical scientific software package managers (e.g. pip, Conda, CRAN, …)
- container technology such as e.g. Docker, …
- typical markup languages, e.g. Markdown, reStructuredText, …
You will gain practical experience in asynchronous team work, Git-based workflows, software environment containerization, writing user documentation, supporting platform customers, service-oriented and requirements-based platform development, workshop organisation, …
