Terms of use

Using Cloudlab systems is subject to the terms of use stated below.

The use of the systems is allowed for educational purposes only. In particular, the use by a student account is restricted to working on the material of the course the account is created for. Every user is legally responsible for the content that is created, shared and/or distributed via their user account.

Please note, the Cloudlab service is in a best efforts state. While the utilized TLJH setup has been running stably since October 2019, and we do our best to keep the service up and running, there is currently no formal guarantee on the availability of the Cloudlab system at any time.

Data deletion

If not stated otherwise, Cloudlab user accounts will be deleted without prior notification after the second examination period of each semester. For example, data related to courses for the winter term 2021/22 will be deleted approximately in late April 2022. All data within user home directories are deleted together with the corresponding user account credentials. For an overview about Kiel University semester dates see this official page.

Usage statistics

To improve the Cloudlab service, aggregated system usage statistics, such as the number of active users, total system CPU, memory and network traffic consumption are recorded. To guide performance tuning experiments, we also record single user process characteristics in a fully anonymized way. The corresponding raw data are kept for the Cloudlab project duration, and may also be shared internally with Cloudlab project partners to improve the service. While insights generated from the records may also be published, raw data will never be made publicly available.

System logs that may contain personal data will never be shared with anyone and are only accessible to JupyterHub machine system administrators for the purpose of providing support.
